People adopt dogs for all sorts of reasons. Some do it for companionship, some do it for health reasons, and then there are those who do it for protection reasons. Call us crazy but we feel much safer when there is a dog in the house. It doesn't really need to be a big dog necessarily, just loud enough to make it seem like there's a big scawy doggo inside so no one ever dares to intrude.

But just like you can't put all of your expectations on other people, neither can you on dogs. Of course, there are certain breeds that are specifically trained for protection, but that's not always the case. If you're adopting from a shelter, you can't expect the doggo to have protective instincts for you right away. Or ever at all, really. Some doggos are just not built to be scary protectors.
