Friends are some of the most underrated yet important relationships that many will have in their lives. We can't choose who we get as family, and plenty of people get a crappy deal. On top of that, romance can turn sour at any moment. In contrast, healthy friendships are something that we can opt into, making the bad times less bad and the good times even better.
That being said, it's easy to find yourself being friends with a person that isn't so great if you're not careful. All those weirdos, jerks, and narcissists out there practice bad behavior on pretty much anyone who will give them the time of day. As a result, it's important to have some sensible rules on who we let into our inner circle.
This has been exemplified in a thread started by @lnbshr, asking people to name the qualities that they tried to avoid in a friend. If nothing else, it reveals that there are way too many icky individuals out there. It's not that difficult to not be mean!
