You Won't Believe These Before Pictures: 21 Dog Breeds 100 Years Ago Vs. Today

It's not often we get the chance to see an evolutionary difference in our lifetimes. We don't perceive change over a long period of time well because we are usually too focused on the small changes that happen around us every day. We see the world around us and think it has always been this way. But this is a fallacy! Our world is constantly evolving, and we can see that clearly if we look at pictures of dogs from 100 years ago versus today.

Some of them are quite drastic, and if you ask us, not for the better. As cute as some of them are, selective breeding has lead to a lot of genetic defects in purebred dogs. We love all dogs here at Animal Comedy, but we mostly love healthy, happy ones! Pugs are great for internet points and are certainly lovable, don't get us wrong. Pug memes are pretty great too - we just wish they could breathe a little better. Who knows what they'll look like in another 100 years!

The pug probably has the most drastic change from over 100 years ago. Its legs are longer and its face is wayyyyyy less smush-y than now. Heck, it looks like it can breathe properly and run around like dogs love to do! What happened in between???

The Pomeranian from 100 years ago almost looks like a Shiba Inu! Look at how much longer its face and legs are! They still have those curly tails and cute faces, but it looks like it can actually do things other than sit and look pretty.
