Driving range diners leave 0 tip for server who ignored them for 2 hours, wouldn't give them water on 100° day: 'If you can't keep up... I'm not tipping'

If you book a luxurious experience, that's what you expect to get. People often have to pay quite a bit of money for their lavish nights out on the town, but if the whole group has a great time, it's totally worth it to splurge. 

This group took a night out to a very fancy golf range. Like many places, they let you book a section for a few hours, and the place assigns you a waiter. This person should be taking your orders while you and your friends relax! After all, it's their job — you and your friends are paying to chill out and relax after a long week at your own jobs. Most people tend to tip well if they receive good service. It's just part of the night out. These people probably would've tipped well… if only their absentee waiter had actually showed up to serve them. Instead, he left them sweating in 100 degree heat without water!

    Went to a fancy multi-storey driving range last night with my husband and his friend. It's one of those interactive places that electronically monitors where your ball goes and they have music, food and alcol. We ordered 2 rounds of food at our bay.

    It's more than 100°F/38°C outside so we finished off our waters pretty quickly. This is the US so free refills on water are standard and expected. We asked for a refill when we ordered the second round of food. Waiter ignores us and pretends to look

    I asked the food runner who dropped off the food if we could get water refills as my cup was totally empty and everyone else had a half a glass of water left or less. The food runner only refilled my cup then walked off.

    Our guest complained to our waiter and he brought out a pitcher of water and left it on our table didn't even refill the - glasses himself. We ran out of water in the pitcher and it was never refilled.

    With literally a minute left to play counting down on the screen, out of two hours, our waiter comes back with a pitcher of just ice cubes, no water, and puts it on our table. I told him we didn't need it because we had a minute left and we were closing out the tab.

    GermantownTiger Assuming it's Top Golf, their service is less-than-stellar on a good day. The concept is cool...their food and beverage operations are horrible due to the uneven quality of people running and working. the venues.

    Check YourL The food runner only refilled my cup then walked off. The food runner get's a cut when the waiter upsells you on things like desserts and in this case drinks. If you are drinking water, you aren't paying for expensive cocktails where the tip $$$$ increases greatly.

    bartleby913 I've been 3 times. Has good service all those times. But if I pay let's say 100 bucks for the bay and 50 bucks for food and drink. Am I in the wrong for thinking I'm not tipping for the rental portion and just the food.

    Extension-Tap26... I know I'm preaching to the choir, but you shouldn't even be put in the uncomfortable position of punishing an employee. It's not my job to train and punish servers. In the civilized world where no tip is socially mandatory, I would just stop patronizing a business with bad service.

    MouthOfMahem Yeah, the Top Golf model of making you pay for your bay along with your food tab is a scam. When we went we tipped off of our food and beverages. Not tipping an additional $20-$40 for the bay.
