Yep, you read that right! An adorable woodpecker was keeping all his 'saving's in a California home's chimney. Maybe he was saving up for a rainy day, or building a 401K… but wowee, 700 pounds is quite the amount! Nick Castro, who is an exterminator, was inspecting a home in California for mealworms when he discovered something… nuts. A lot of them. As in, tens of thousands of acorns that came cascading out from behind a bedroom wall!
Woodpeckers tend to 'store' their nuts in places that they can later access, in order to sustain them through the fall and winter, plus help them feed their babies in springtime. The thing is, this woodpecker tried storing his nuts in a chimney but didn't realize (he was a bit of a derp, we guess) that they would be falling into a wall cavity, leading to a lack of access.
We guess that humans aren't the only slow learners, because apparently, he kept stacking them there anyway! It is also implied that this bird had help from his fellow birdy friends. So… a whole group of cute derps. Anyhow, Castro said he filled a total of eight garbage bags with 700 lbs of acorns. He also said that he had never come across anything like this. Well, us neither to be perfectly honest.
