For some men, it can be difficult to compete with the perfect, romantic characters that exist in their partner's imagination. While it's natural to feel a little intimidated by these characters, it's important to remember that no one can compete with a fantasy. After all, reading is a form of escapism from the real world.
Unfortunately, this can give a real-life boyfriend a complex. He may feel like he can't measure up against these fictional men, and that can lead to feelings of insecurity and low self-esteem. He may even start to feel like he's being compared to the characters in the books, and that can be incredibly damaging to a relationship.
A man recently went to Reddit for advice on how to handle his feelings of insecurity, pointing out how amazing his relationship with his girlfriend is, both on the emotional and physical front.
At first, his heartfelt plight was sympathy-inducing until he mentioned how his girlfriend asked him not to watch porn, which he willingly agreed to. In his eyes, this was a double standard - she was reading "porn books," so why can't he watch actual porn.
Some Reddit users agreed this is a double standard, but most called OP out for his obvious attempt to find support in what they assume is an argument he intends to make with his girlfriend for the sake of "getting his porn viewing rights back" rather than understanding the obvious difference between the two mediums, as well as roasting him for his insecurities and fragile masculinity.
