Some coworkers are intolerable for a number of reasons. Like when Jeff from IT forgets to reload paper into the printer or when Krista from upstairs chats too long in the elevator and makes you miss your floor– that kind of stuff in simply annoying, but doesn't violate acceptable work ethics and morality. Some work behavior, on the other hand, is completely unacceptable and make the workplace unbelievably toxic, like being a racist, xenophobic, and sexist jerk who makes the workplace toxic and deserves a swift kick in the rear for being a massive tool.
One man on Reddit, u/LeonardoDaWitchy, recently encountered the worst kind of coworker whom he endured for years before finally taking action against him. Leonardo was a recent college graduate who was on a work visa in New Jersey at a manufacturing facility. When Leo's racist colleague, a man named 'Mike' who apparently had a flagrant history of being contemptible, started giving him problems at work he initially tried to ignore it. Leo was stoked about his opportunity to live and work in the United States, so he didn't want to jeopardized anything. Mike's comments started slow as he gradually made "jokes" about Leo, claiming he was exactly like Jeff Dunham's marionette character Akhmet the terrorist. Yikes.
The stupid non-funny racist jokes continued and Leo started noticing that he wasn't the only one being terrorized by Mike. Turns out, everyone hated him. Then one day, Mike no-showed an important meeting that was integral to their team's project and Leo called him out on it.
Mike lost his cool and responded, "I don't want to [join the meeting], GTFO of my face".
Leo respectfully asked him again to join their important meeting because they needed him there and Mike said, "Why don't you just go back to your f-ing country".
Needless to say, HR got involved and defended Mike, saying that he had gotten much better than he used to be and that they couldn't fire him because he has arthritis…. What? After enduring lengthy and demeaning therapy sessions (thwarted by HR) with Mike, Leo was fed up with how the system was handling the situation, so he took matters into his own hands. Leo threatened to quit if they didn't fire Mike for his outrageous behavior and he threatened to walk into the CEO's office to throw his boss and HR under the bus as well for their terrible conduct following Mike's actions.
Finally, they fired Mike for being a rampaging jerk and a bad employee and Leo went to the CEO anyways to inform him of his bosses part in the whole ordeal as well. Eventually the boss and HR team were replaced and Leonardo gets a bit of justice at the end of a 4 year debacle.
