Managers and HR have a talent for coming up with the worst possible rewards for employees who do good work. I don't know who needs to hear this, but no one wants a pizza party, gift card, or golden star with their name on it. Do you know what workers would love in exchange for going above and beyond? More money.
Redditor u/No-Satisfaction-749 was so stunned by HR's condescending "prize" for doing a good job, that they left the job shortly after receiving it. The reward was a whopping ten minute break that came with a long list of rules. Just the coordination required to even use the prize probably would have taken at least ten minutes.
Many redditors in the comment section strongly related to OP's indignation over management's insulting idea of a reward. Others had similar grievances to share.
“My significant other was laid off from his 13-year job for not meeting a sales quota...while he was on his company reward trip to Jamaica for a week for being top sales champion of the year. Stupidest thing I have ever seen in my entire life.” said u/CandyButterscotch.
“I really don't know how Americans function being at the mercy of someone's whim like that. With health insurance for their family on the line to boot. Firing long time employee in Europe takes months and requires a really good reason.” said u/IgamOg.
“It was a LAW FIRM!!!!!!! I have a legit college degree, on fucking SALARY!!!!!! LOLOLOL” said OP.
“LMAAAOOOO 24 hr for a 10 min break” said OP.
“Hahaha right? I’ll take a 10 minute shit whenever the fuck I want” said u/Suspicious_Row_9451.
“Exactly. You could be sitting at your desk, just staring at the screen for 10 minutes, and no one would care. On the other it would be a huge deal to take a 10 minute walk to clear your head, thereby making you more productive when you get back to working” said u/TheAres1999.
“That's because the appearance of productivity is far more important than actual productivity. That's why so many places are against remote work and would rather you stare off into space at your desk than relax for even a little bit.” said u/FalconFiveZeroNine.
“I sent it to the higher ups via email afterwards and said y’all need to hire more equipped HR because this is embarrassing” said OP.
“Alas, it was a beautiful day when I quit” replied OP.
“The time it takes to coordinate this 10 minute break is longer than 10 minutes” said u/SnackThisWay.
