Science is cool because it's the closest human beings can come these days to legitimized magic. Wielded benevolently, it can change billions of lives for the better, but it can also do the exact opposite when it's in the wrong hands.

It's the perfect grounding for an entire genre of art, and science fiction knows it. We've seen insane feats of creativity in this concept over the years, and they have racked up massive loyal fanbases as a result.

There may still be many limits to our technological capabilities in real life, but that just gives all the more encouragement to think up the weird and wonderful ways in which these could progress. Hell, we don't even need to think about human involvement if we don't want to. This is what makes the world of sci fi so irresistible, which translates into the enthusiasm we can see in memes inspired by it. Who knew aliens and undiscovered advancements could be so relatable?
