Font - I worked at a ice cream shop that is located in a small town. Been working here for 2 months and everything was going smoothly. Today as I was scooping ice cream for a customer, I accidentally dropped it. My manager later came and asked to come to his office. I was fired on the spot. He said something along the lines of "our ice cream is too expensive and we can not risk losing them" so he fired me instead. Like wtf?? Ice cream here costs $5 a scoop. It is not fucking expensive. And fired

Font - DranoTheCat • 23h Yup. The manager had a reason they wanted to fire the OP that they didn't really want to use or possibly even admit consciously. So, their subconscious jumped on the first "mistake" possible. Honestly, amazing in that kind of environment the OP was able to basically do perfect work for so long. Impressive. ... 987

Font - Hi-Impact-Meow 21h Pro tip to all workers: never work in a "perfect work" environment no matter what, unless you're like a neurosurgeon or something, and if you suspect these demands are being placed on you then look for another job. You're being targeted while others are being let slide for mistakes that would get you fired instead. You will make a mistake eventually and no matter how minor it will be, and no matter how exceptional you or your track record are in general, it will be your

Font - GreyerGrey 21h You're being targeted while others are being let slide for mistakes that would get you fired instead. Or you're being used as your work's Boxer (from Animal Farm): Expected to do more, and better, than others because "Well, we just expect better from you" (which is a line that will always make me walk out on you). ... 195

Font - Substantial Pressure3 • 23h Sometimes people are just looking for an excuse, instead of admit that they can't afford to pay staff, because their business isn't going great. One of my kids got fired literally a week after they were given a raise and a promotion. Business was owned by a couple. Wife worked the books, husband ran the kitchen. The husband gave a raise and promotion to my kid. I don't think he talked about it with his wife (who handled the money), and as soon as she got that p

Font - Instead of admitting that he made a hasty decision without talking his his accountant/wife first, he kept criticizing everything she did, and fired her. I'll bet their business isn't that profitable, so they fired you over a scoop of ice cream instead of saying " we can't afford to pay all our staff, and have to make cuts somewhere". Reply 278

Font - Da battleofflowers • 22h This is likely what happened. Small business owners are usually the worst about stuff like this. They don't want to lay someone off because then that person might collect unemployment, so they just abuse their employee and then fire them. 490

Font - stevied05. 21h CYA time: write an email: Dear X: this email is to confirm that you terminated me yesterday ([date]). The reason provided was because I accidentally dropped an ice cream cone which, you noted, "is too expensive and we cannot risk losing them." All the best, your name. make sure to copy their boss. Then immediately file for unemployment. Trust me, it'll be hurting them way more than $5.... Reply 377

Font - murdocksgirl. 14h Hr person here: The company could contest that it was a legitimate termination and depending on the state may not have to pay unemployment. Get it in writing. If they contest unemployment you have proof of the exact cause for termination which.. 99.999% of labor boards/unemployment would look at this as ridiculous. Something similar happened to me (ex bartender) and I can remember the "judge" trying not to laugh hearing the excuses out of my ex employer ... 412 12

Font - fortifier22. 21h If $5 is too significant of a loss for a business, then logically the business is on the verge of bankruptcy. I'd say you were rather let go because the boss is a jerk, and/or the business is not doing well and they needed to cut costs. It happened at the last place I worked at, and they haven't had any work for their employees to do for a long time. ... Reply 444 44
