We didn't wake up today and think we would be learning about chameleon births, but that's the game we play here, and it's super cool anyway. We learned today that most chameleons lay eggs, but there are a few species that give live births, like the one in this video. It literally just plops out and starts walking, it's incredible!
Human babies take 2 years to start walking and interacting with their environments, and chameleons learn to do it in ten seconds. Evolution is a wild thing. If they took so long to adjust to their environment, most of them probably wouldn't survive. Nature is truly a diverse and beautiful thing, and we should do everything in our power to preserve all of it. Anyway, now you have a fun fact to say at your next awkward social gathering. What a great ice breaker, "Hey, did you know that some species of chameleon have live births?" Nailed it.
What do you mean it's pregn…….oh yeah. We see it now. Well, this is an interesting image. Not one we thought we would wake up to and write about today, but that's part of the job. We're always looking for new, interesting things to show you!
That little sack underneath the tail is a baby chameleon! It's so small, and if you watch the video, you're in for a shocking surprise right after this. It's crazy that some chameleons adapted to give live births, we wonder why that is?
