I've praised Generation X for their angst time and time again. I don't know if another generation in our lifetime will ever have such an angry and disaffected young generation accompanied by incredible art. Today, I want to praise Gen X for their comedy. Gen Xers lived their teen and young adult lives in the golden age of movie and TV comedies. These days, there are practically no mid-budget comedy movies. We Gen-Zers are watching movies that either cost hundreds of millions of dollars to make, movies churned out by Netflix every week that nobody watches, or A24 movies. That's it! Gen Xers had incredible blockbusters like Star Wars and Indiana Jones, mid-budget comedies like Romy and Michele's High School Reunion and White Chicks, and incredible auteur directors like Spike Lee and Quentin Tarantino. If you're a proud consumer of movies made for and by Gen Xers, then these memes are a perfect fit.
