When it comes to being pregnant in the workplace, there have been many laws constructed around it. If we're talking working on a construction site with heavy materials and potentially dangerous conditions, there is definitely limitations to what you can do or should do as a pregnant employee. If you work in a less physical labor job, then the laws a very different. Pregnant women can work a lot longer during the pregnancy and the laws make sure that they have that available to them. However, toxic management and employers are constantly ignoring those worker rights for pregnant women. What should you do when that happens?
Recently, a fully licensed, board certified physician who works as a Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists posted to the subreddit r/BabyBumps to ask if she were getting mistreated at her job. She recently found out she was over 20 weeks pregnant and she confided in a friend/coworker about the news. She considered them to be close friends first and coworker second, however, the very next morning crap hit the fan. She walked in and was asked into a meeting with her bosses and the so-called friend/coworker. The management told her that she was 100% going to have "pregnancy brain" and that she was no longer able to do her job on her own.
Other than that being completely insulting, it is also potentially illegal. This woman showed no reason for incompetence and she was doing her job extremely well. The only reason they were forcing her into this unfair work environment was simply because she was pregnant. "Pregnancy brain" is basically like forgetting your keys sometimes, everybody has those little hiccups from time to time on an off day. But these toxic bosses stuck to their antiquated philosophy and refused to budge on trusting her with her duties.
She made sure to get everything in writing and refuses to follow the new discriminatory guidelines. The internet is fully in support of this pregnant physician and even encourages her to take legal actions.
