When you have kids, it's tough to balance having a real life of your own, while also being a rad parent. Especially when you're a mom of multiple kiddos, things start to get hectic without a playtime outlet. One midwestern mother of three, who is a locally renowned artist as well as a fabric and fibers expert, decided to combine her work, hobbies, and motherly instinct to create the most epic playhouse of all time.
This is Cassie, the woman who bought thousands of skeins of yarn, created her own MEGA yarn, and then knitted a playhouse. Yes, this wacky lady built a full size house for her three kids using nothing but yarn, PVC pipe, and hours-upon-hours of work. Cassie is an art school drop out who taught herself how to knit almost two decades ago. Since then, her creativity has taken over and she's created extraordinary art pieces. Most notably, this outrageous playhouse.
She first got the idea while living in a 1000 square foot apartment with her 5 person family. Unable to escape each other's space, Cassie decided to build a playhouse for her three daughters so that they could have a room all their own. Considering Cassie is not a carpenter, she had limited options on the medium out of which she was experienced enough to make an entire house– so she decided to knit the walls. It probably would have taken 10 lifetimes to knit a house this size with regular sized yarn, so Cassie got the hair-brained idea to make her own mega yarn skein.
Using tubes of knitted lengths of yarn, Cassie stuffed them with stuffing to give them more fluff.
After than, she balled up the skein and got to the real work: The walls.
Using the mega yarn and her mega knitting needles, Cassie was unstoppable. She started building the entire structure from the ground up, using PVC pipe to reinforce the shape.
Before bringing her playhouse home for good for the kiddos to play in, Cassie had her playhouse on display at her art studio, sharing her extremely original, super mom piece with the whole world.
The finished product turned out to be so epic and cozy, making all of us jealous. Although Cassie's niche skills built this house, her motherly outlook made it a home.
