Font - Am I wrong for physically taking food away from coworker who tried to take it all home after a party, and not share with everyone? Recently quit a job after 4 years. During my last 2 weeks, I trained the new hire. We'll call her Amy. She is 60 years old. I became very close with my coworkers at this job. There's 9 employees, and we all became like family.

Font - My boss surprised me by closing the place, inviting some of my family, and catering Panera bread. As a going away party. It was incredibly kind, and I appreciated it. We had tons of salads, sandwiches, bagels, etc. My boss tried to get me to take all of it home. I said the only right thing to do is share with everyone. A lot of the employees are low income. One of the employees is a 18 year old kid who is struggling to pay his

Amy then chimes in while we're at the dinner table, saying "If not my dog and I would sure love that food". I said I would package her some up. We cleaned the table, and cut the cake. While we were sitting and talking about the past 4 years working together, Amy just disappears. My one coworker and I went in

Font - and saw a bag filled with sandwiches, bagels, countless bowls of soup, etc. there were a few bagels left over on the counter. I then take all the shit out of the bag while she wasn't around, and made 8 individual paper bags full of food. One for every employee excluding myself.
  • 06
Font - She then walks back in and says "Where did my bag go?" And I said "Amy. Everyone is getting an equal amount of food. I told you this already" She then says "Well Tanya (our boss) said I can take the rest". Which was a total lie. Tanya said she never said that.

Font - We all leave to go into the main room. We sit for a while, and talk. Amy said she was leaving...and I had a funny feeling what was going to happen next. I go into the back room, and she was trying to leave with FIVE of the brown paper bags I made.
  • 08
Font - I then stopped her, ripped the bags away from her, and she left. She never said another word. That was that. I walk back out to see everyone, and tell them what just happened. My boss said "It's really not a big deal. It's just sandwiches". And I couldn't have disagreed more. We all do our fair share of work at this job. It was my fucking party, and I wanted all of my coworkers, who I love, to get a share of the food.

Font - Amy knows people here aren't made of money. I know she isn't doing too well financially, but stealing isn't a way to fix that. One coworker is 18, and kicked out of his parents house for being gay. Another one is a single mom with 4 kids. Another one is 64 and needs this money to survive.

Font - And I'll be damned if they were going to leave my party empty handed. Especially not by someone who has worked here for 2 weeks. They were getting their food. Am I wrong? I mean I ripped those f ing bags out of her hands like my life depended on it

Font - Zealousideal-Job353 3 hr. ago That's sucks. Some people have no manners. I was a caterer for a long time 15 years or so and I had an order for a funeral catering. Sad occasion right? Everyone will be courteous and have manners right? Wrong! These ladies came up and made themselves huge plates then went to put them in the car and came back to make themselves more food! I can't stand people like that.

Font - MNConcerto 9 hr. ago No, she was told twice by you and still tried. She may be struggling but so is everyone else that you mentioned. Just like the coworkers who show up at potlucks with tuperware bowls to take home enough for dinner before everyone has eaten, greedy m fers.

Font - Low-Focus-3879 5 hr. ago She may be struggling but so is everyone else And half the reason people struggle is because of jerks like Amy. There's plenty to go around, but somehow, Amy needs all of it.

Font - kb_run 8 hr. ago No; you're not wrong. At my old job, we had a rule in place that food brought for the parties had to stay on site. Mainly because of ONE co-worker who always wanted to "take food home for my kids" -- BEFORE the party had even started -- by packing it in their trunk! And then ALSO taking heaps of "leftovers" afterwards!

Font - ka-ka-ka-katie1123 46 min. ago I used to work in a place that did a really nice catered lunch around the winter holidays. There were a couple of women who would literally show up to the lunch with f ing Tupperware. And not after everyone had left. They wanted to go first and get the good stuff to take home, just like your co-worker.

Font - Mueryk 9 hr. ago Not wrong. She is a thief and showed a lack of integrity and empathy. Luckily she is no longer your problem but your former boss's.

Font - PoppinBubbles578 33 min. ago I hope a former coworker also has the backbone of OP. After being told No twice, Amy still tried to take way more than her share. She will try again. I hope they stand their ground.
