If you have ever been a kid in love with something then you know how it feels like the end of the world when someone yells at you about it. Like, you're just trying to live your life and nerd out a bit, what's so wrong about that? So when a parent yells at a kid for just trying to let their harmless nerdy self fly, well, it's going to feel a lot worse than just being told no. There is a different between a parent trying to teach a meaningful life lesson to their kid and a parent just being plain vindictive. What happens when you witness a parent being the latter? Should you try to step in and help the kid or is that wrong to intervene with someone else's parenting? Well, this Redditor posted a story that will fully have you supporting intervening.
He is a merchant of fandom items like Pokémon cards, Yu-Gi-Oh! Cards, etc. While selling his goods at a flea market, he witnessed a mother being a Karen to her own child. He had a box of cards that he was selling for 25 cents each. A boy stopped to look at them and the mom instantly was annoyed. She told him they didn't have time, and the kid called her out saying they always have time for her to shop, but never for him. She resentfully waited as the looked through the cards, but when he grabbed one out to buy, she refused.
It turns out the card was mistakenly put in the box by the merchant and was worth more around $50. However, the man wanted to honor his word, especially for children, so he agreed to still sell it for 25 cents. The mom said they'd think about it while she was trying to snatch her kid away, but the merchant told her that this was a mistake price and he was just trying to honor his word, but once they leave, the price is going to be jacked up to $50. The kid tried to plea with the mom to allow him to purchase this 25 cent card, for it was a great deal! She threw a tantrum, which of course, as kids do, he started to also throw a tantrum because kids mirror their parents. The mom was satisfied that she was able to get her child to behave badly and continued to yell at him.
Luckily, the father was approaching unbeknownst to her, and immediately asked what was happening. The mother said the boy was throwing a tantrum and she was punishing him. The merchant could not believe his ears and couldn't just stand by while this injustice unfolded. So he stepped up and told the father that what the mother was saying, was not the full picture. The mother started yelling at the merchant, and so the father took the boy away to her his side of the story, then came back and asked for the merchant's side of the story. The boy's and the merchant's story matched up and now the father knew to be angry with the mother.
She started to throw a Karen tantrum, but the father still purchased the card. Read the whole satisfying story below!
