There will be moments throughout your life that really stick with you… Whether they're great experiences or hard and tough lessons, they will become formative parts of who you are and how you define yourself. These "core memories" or "canon events" could be good, they could be bad, and they could be downright terrible. They might be formed from when something went totally right for you—or they could be from when everything went completely wrong. If the former—great; if the latter—you know how not to do it next time, and there's a silver lining. These experiences will steer the course you take through your life like the rudder on a sailboat—all you need now is a little breeze to move you forward.
This worker shared the terrible experience that they had at their workplace, which they referred to as their "supervillain origin story," telling how they were tasked with the development of a new department, being given essentially zero resources to do so. Without any of the proper tools or equipment, not even a laptop, they managed to teach themself an entirely new set of skills, becoming incredibly effective. After doing all of this and successfully launching the department, they were called in to talk to their superiors, who informed them that they were being stripped of their title and handed a hefty cut in an already meager pay.
This news drove them to find a new job which left their newly developed department—and the company as a whole—struggling.
