Font - Hypothetical Q for fun: who do you think would win the fight if a silverback gorilla encountered a grizzly bear?

Font - DanteIshimura · 23 days ago Probably the bear. Can climb, can swim, can run (possibly faster than the gorilla), bite may not be as powerful pound wise, but it probably gets a bigger bite. The claws are deadly as fook. It's mass could hold the gorilla down whilst it tears chunks from it.

Font - ChesticleGainz OP 23 days ago Yes. Scary animal. Joe Rogan isn't obsessed with grizzly bears for nothing.

Font - heelspider 23 days ago The bear. Assuming it's two males, the bear will probably have a hundred pounds or more on the gorilla. Also, as bears are omnivores they are better prepared to kill other animals. Bears can also run faster. Always pick the vicious killer over the gentle herbivore.

Font - ChesticleGainz OP 23 days ago I wouldn't particularly say gorillas are gentle, but I do get your point. Grizzly bears are arguably the strongest predator on the face of the earth, maybe only second to the polar bear.

Font - Eleaine 23 days ago I can't believe people are saying the Gorilla! 10/10 the grizzly will win. • unless some anomaly, the grizzly outweighs the gorilla by over half the gorilla weight. Even the bigger gorillas don't come close to a big sized grizzly. the bear has some gnarly claws. The gorilla doesn't.

Font - the bear has some gnarly claws. The gorilla doesn't. ● the big one: the grizzly is essentially wearing body armor with it's incredibly tough and thick fur/skin. The gorila is the complete opposite. He's essentially naked to any attacks. A bite or swipe with the monster claws by the bear and the gorila is done. The bear can withhold a lot of damage (just watch videos of brown bears fighting among each other). 10/10 times, the grizzly wins.

Font - saracenraider 22 days ago . The only way I could see a gorilla winning is through superior intelligence, although I can't actually picture a scenario in how they could use that to their advantage. But there must be a way, even if it's only 1 time in 100

Font - Electric-Possum 23 days ago Hilariously enough, my roommate and I JUST had this debate! Honestly? They're pretty evenly matched in my opinion, but I am rooting for the gorilla. Grizzlies have weight, size, claws, and aggressive tendencies on their side, while gorillas have reach, grip, speed, and bite force on their side. Both are entirely fair trades between eachother and both have the possibility of winning. Although I think despite my love of the gorilla, the bear does have a lot of ad

Font - Electric-Possum. 23 days ago Gorillas have a much longer windspan than grizzlies, a stronger bite force (PSI), and a greater range of flexibility which I should have put instead of speed, so you do have me there. Grip strength could be advantageous in a fight in regards to grabbing vulnerable appendages (Ears, muzzle, jaw, eyes, etc.), Could also be useful in fighting off attacks by arms/claws.

Font - Although I do see your perspective, I think overall, the grizzly does have a lot on the gorilla. Plus gorillas are already vulnerable to a lot of other predators, as another redditor here pointed out, they die pretty regularly to a predator that's smaller than them.

Font - Odd_Routine4164 · 23 days ago . THIS!!! THIS is what the internet was created for! In a fair fight...definitely the griz. But in a sneak attack the gorilla would take advantage of his Krav Maga skills and attack from above. If he has the advantage of a hunting knife he will go directly for the bear's jugular. Of course, In a well planned scenario the sniper rifle dispatches with ease.

Font - larrydaklin 23 days ago Gorillas are very uncoordinated with their attacks and have 0 protection against a bears sharp claws, while grizzlies have 10 inches of fat u gotta get thru to deal real damage. Any swipe from a grizzlie that lands on the gorilla is leaving a wound.

Font - HyenaJack94 23 days ago I'm a biologist, I've seen bears and gorillas in the wild, and I've studied gorilla behavior in grad school for class. I'm telling you that while gorillas are large and very strong, they aren't bear sized. The average brown bear is about twice as big as the average male gorilla, and the size discrepancy only increases as you look at the extremes. For all it's strength and bite power gorillas just can't overcome such differences in size and power.

Font - TheClapCheeks. 23 days ago A consideration here is, which animal has the best chance of ending the fight aka killing their opponent? Gorillas lack any real means to kill whereas bears have claws and teeth that are designed to take down other large mammals. They are actively trained to defeat and consume prey whereas Gorillas use their size and strength to bluff and brawl. Gorillas lack the killer instinct to end a fight whereas the bear does.
