Working with someone who is constantly looking for ways to stab you in the back can be a tiring experience making you constantly have to evaluate every interaction—every little thing—to determine whether or not they could try and use it against you. This is bad enough when it's a coworker or other member of your team—but when it's a supervisor, it's a whole entire new story.
For one thing, supervisors are typically more trusted, and their word will carry more weight than yours, so you're constantly going to be fighting an uphill battle to work yourself out of any situation that they have had a say in. Hopefully, someone in the workplace will figure out what's going on and take everything this person says with a grain of salt, but all it takes is for the wrong ear to take their word as the truth.
This is the situation that this older worker found themself in when they ended up on the wrong side of a younger supervisor, a production lead, who had been hired into their role for who they knew… not what they knew. This production lead had been known to complain to his mother (a senior member of the organization) about the worker in the past, trying various different complaints to get the worker removed.
