It's very easy to be a decent neighbor, so why do so many people mess it up? Seriously, all you have to do is keep to yourself and make sure that any shared space is respected as a shared space and not your own. To be an average good neighbor requires next to no effort. It's essentially the same as the bare minimum requirements of being a generally decent human being. However, somehow, countless neighbors fail to meet these very basic requirements. Instead, they end up showing their true colors as bottom-of-the-barrel humans who tend to have absolutely no regard for other people's privacy or space.
This Redditor's story is further proof that you're more likely to come across a bad neighbor these days than a good one. Like my mother with her neighbors, OP was particularly enraged at the trash etiquette. One night, they saw a spilled pile of trash all over their patio. When they went back to watch the security camera footage, they saw that a neighbor's guest had taken out the trash and tossed the bag, causing it to spill everywhere. Instead of picking it up and doing the decent thing, the guest simply laughed and walked away. So, as properly petty revenge, the Redditor collected that trash and dumped it right on the neighbor's doorstep. As a neighbor, you are also responsible for your guest's etiquette, so we believe this act was fully justified.
