Sometimes customers will go out of their way to be an a-hole if it means avoiding paying a few bucks. In Uber driver u/StarsBear75063's case, they were totally prepared to wait an extra 30-45 minutes until their (already late) passenger was ready, so long as the passenger was willing to pay the waiting fee (he wasn't). Instead, OP's passenger demanded that OP cancel the ride and then wait for him to rebook it, assuming that this would cancel out the wait fee. Boy, was he wrong. OP maliciously complied, resulting in the passenger getting charged double for the "no show" cancellation and the rebooked ride. Whoops.
“If I would have just waited for him on the clock, it would have cost him about $10 more. The way he wanted, he paid at least $70 more since he paid for the trip twice!!” said OP.
“Wow! Yeah, $10 in this situation is nothing. I'd have paid it and thanked you for waiting!” said u/virtual_gnus.
“Oh, I can relate. I only Uber a couple weeks a month and since I don't own my own car, I rent one from Avis to do my Ubering. Makes very good financial sense in that I'm driving a reasonably nice car without worrying about maintenance, etc. Prices under the Uber program are half of a regular Avis rental. Anyways... I take Uber to and from the Avis location which is a fairly good ride and a lot of times the Uber driver, for no explainable reason, cancels and the trip is reassigned to another. It would drive me crazy if it weren't for the fact that I've made the trip already several times!!” said OP
“Basically, a driver cancellation would be for a ‘no show’” explained OP.
“I've had the driver go right past me as I was in the specified location, look me in the eye as I was frantically waving at them, and then cancel the trip. I'd be royally pissed if I were asked to pay for the ride after that.” said u/Alexis_J_M.
“You are absolutely correct. But then again, I do still have a bit of morality left in me. It hasn't all been sucked out of my soul by these vacuous modern times. [ebil grin]” said OP.
“Oh, Dear Sweet Baby Jeebus, no!! I can't walk out of Buc-ee's for less than $80.” said OP.
“He can contest to his heart's desire. He didn't pay me. Uber did. If the card issuer, for some reason, reverses the charges, Uber eats it.” said OP.
