New Zealand’s Police recruits Adorable guinea pig to teach road safety
Meet Constable Elliot, the latest New Zealand Police recruit teaching Kiwis to drive slowly
The pet rodent has been pictured wearing a miniature police uniform – complete with hat – in a social media post aimed at the country's motorists. In the post, shared almost 10,000 times, Constable Elliot calls on readers to "do your part to keep our kids safe."
He says: "Did you know that a piggie's top speed can be around 9km/hr? Not me, I have gone a bit overboard on the carbs lately and need to lighten up, so I go even slower. I am not too fast and that's the way I like it – slow is safe!
The force later revealed that Elliot was a "well cared for family pet" belonging to a member of the media team.
