Having your landlord contact you to let you know they're moving into your spare room in a few days sounds like a great premise for a sitcom… but it would be a nightmare to live out in real life.
But let's be honest, living with your landlord is never an ideal situation, especially when they go ahead and invite themselves into your living arrangement when you've signed a lease and made a legal agreement that the place is yours to live in for the duration of the agreement. Obviously, there are protections around this agreement to ensure that your boss can't just contact you on a random Tuesday, notifying you of their intention to move into your spare room after their wife kicked them out of their house.
Living in a roommate situation with the owner of the house can work fine, but you'd probably want to be aware of that dynamic going into it as this can present a different dynamic than a "head tenant" scenario where you're merely living with someone who's also renting the place.
See this user below, who shared how his girlfriend's landlord had contacted her, letting her know that he intended to move in at the end of the week, offering a measly rent discount of $55 for the honor of his presence… I'm not sure if this landlord has seen the rent he has been charging, but $55 is definitely not the going rate for a room anywhere these days.
