Font - As a teenager and young adult, it wasn't hard to find songs that put music/words to my heartache/listlessness/I don't wanna grow up attitude/whatever.
  • 04
Font - Now, I'm a cynical, disillusioned suburban husband and father of 3. Wife and kids are amazing, we live in a great area (as far as suburbs go), and I make 6 figures doing a job that is highly respected (medical field).
  • 05
Font - But I'm more and more disillusioned by the life I ultimately bought into. Car- dependent suburban sprawl, groundhog days of fighting kids to get ready for school, rushing to work, juggling carpools, kids activities,
  • 06
Font - dinner, repeat. Every teacher/coach sends us messages via different apps - between work emails/messages, it's a constant barrage of information and my head is mush.
  • 07
Font - I would make changes/a move if I could but it's just not feasible right now - sort of a golden handcuffs thing. Though I'm sure I romanticize most of the artists I love, I'm also pretty confident they're the type of people to lead a life I now view as more consistent with

Font - connection/happiness/balanc e - likely urban, exposing kids to more real culture/art. Either way, I'm starting to feel like none of their music hits with my current angst.
  • 09
Font - So, any (really music....but otherwise, I'm all ears/eyes) suggestions? Maybe there's a angst suburban dad making great indie music I haven't heard of.

Smile - SAMB010794 10 hr. ago Not necessarily strict Indie, but I have some selections from The Growlers, and one from frontman Brooks Nielsen.
  • 11
Font - The Growlers' songs early in their history were lighthearted and carefree; however Brooks began having children and it seems he had to 'grow up' at some point. These songs below reflect that I believe. Especially evident in 'Try Hard Fool'.

Font - The Daisy Chain Excerpt: Feeling pressure on every side Everyone wondering if I'm doing alright I never asked that same question Yes, this is a confession Tired of waiting to be explained Weakest link in the daisy chain This is just a powerless pain And I'm bursting out of my veins*

Font - Tune Out Excerpt: * I'm so so old, in a twenty first century rig Working without knowing why Maybe it's better to forget Why am I here? How do I get home? Why's it feel? Like I've been here before? If I'm not supposed to know Where I'm supposed to go, it can be my fault *
  • 14
Font - Pulp of Youth Excerpt: * The pop don't sound the same no more When I pull the cork Never about the taste before It was a hunt for sport A sea of fading faces I was stupid and proud Eyes as sharp as knives Cut me out of the crowd *
  • 15
Font - Late Bloomers Except: * He had it good A life too easy On his mother's tit too long Made a boy too needy Picture perfect picket fencing Robbing him his chance To grow up right and feel heartbreak Utopia's a scam *
  • 16
Font - Social Man Excerpt: * Social man must remember how to disconnect Most of your friends ain't friends at all How many ghosts can one soul hold? So worked up on high alert Don't have nowhere to go Once the lines get blurred *
  • 17
Font - Try Hard Fool Excerpt: * Nobody said it would be easy And if it was you wouldn't want it anyway It's just a game though you ain't no child You gotta cry every once in a while Without danger there ain't no style But you can only try so hard, so hard, so hard And you can only try so hard*
  • 18
Font - Decoy Face Excerpt: Thought I hated gambling now every day's a deck of cards Losings got me terrified and winnings what they're calling art I wear my decoy face while my mind walks away * *
  • 19
Font - How Do You Like It So Far (This Life) Excerpt: * Are you close to what you wanted? How do you like it so far, this life? Have your wishes, any of them been granted? How do you like it so far, this life? *

Font - Apersonwithwonder 10 hr. ago I feel Radiohead 100% captures what you depict, specifically: "No Surprises" https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=u5CVsCnxyXg and "Fake Plastic Trees" https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=n5h0qHwNrHk

Font - East Mix9657 36 min. ago ● David Byrne is AWESOME! I just listened to that song on my way home yesterday and then Take Me to the River! Great music!
  • 22
Font - MiamiMinnie OP. 9 hr. ago No joke, I was listening to "No Surprises" on repeat recently for a few days. That's precisely what I'm looking for more of!
  • 23
Font - Apersonwithwonder. 9 hr. ago Hah for sure! After some consideration, I have a few more for you: Arcade Fire "The Suburbs" (in fact whole album covers experience of) https://www.youtube.com/watc h?v=5Euj9f3gdyM
  • 24
Font - Fleet Foxes "Helplessness Blues" https://www.youtube.com/watc h?v=7HHgedNNQco and, I feel like Kurt Vile comes at it from a different angle, but still that feel: "Pretty Pimpin" (check out lyrics) https://www.youtube.com/watc h?v=659pppwniXA

Gesture - chad420hotmaledotcom. 10 hr. ago Try Tim Kasher

Font - BabyBreath Beats 2 hr. ago ● Absolutely love the Wrens. Have you listened to Women's Public Strain. It's totally it's own thing, but somehow gives me a similar vibe to Meadowlands.

Font - ALs_music 6 hr. ago One of my favorites is Purple Mountains (self-titled). It's David Berman from Silver Jews. He's one of the best lyricists I've ever heard and this record (his last), the music is a little more intentional than some of his previous Silver Jews records (although I love those too).

Font - ComPanda 9 hr. ago ● Listen to Mt. Eerie's A Crow Looked At Me; the entire album is about losing his wife to cancer and raising their child on his own. Maybe you'll appreciate your privileged life a bit more.

Human body - mZelley 6 hr. ago "Clinic - internal wrangler" came to mind.
  • 31
Font - BabyBreathBeats These may all be on your radar already, but they all have more mature, adult emotional breadth lyrically. ● 2 hr. ago Big Thief (the song Change comes to mind- also Sparrow is an incredible piece of poetry). Low, Pedro the Lion/David Bazan, Low Roar, Son Lux.
  • 32
Font - Carsinogenic 2 hr. ago ● Indie you say..... disillusioned and angsty you say......i got you. Check "C-Flat Sounds". Got that 90's feel with a modern flavour. :)

Font - RandomUser_281 2 hr. ago. • edited 58 min. ago Ooh, try Jeffrey Martin! I love all his songs, but his album 'Dogs in the Daylight (Expanded Edition)' is top class lyrically. Let me know if you like that kind of music and I can reccommend a lot more :)

Font - Sunstoned11 hr. ago Life is Hard - Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. I love the peppy vibe and snarky lyrics.
