When everyone in the class is getting an A, is extra credit really necessary? We've all heard of these kinds of schools where the parents are always the invisible presence in the room. Once upon a time, I used to work as a tutor for high school students and experienced the full range of entitled behavior from students and parents alike. No matter what the specifics were, the grades were never high enough and the essays were never strong enough. The students I had were often (though not always) pressured to ridiculous extremes by their helicopter parents.
Thankfully, this story involved a teacher who threw demands right back at those parents. Her husband shared the story via this thread on Reddit's r/MaliciousCompliance subreddit, and let's just say that the teacher more than proved her point. Despite the fact that she was working at a school where virtually all her students were getting A's or higher, the parents kept on insisting that she give extra credit assignments. So she finally caved, but in doing so, she decided to involve the parents with assignments that would take a ridiculous amount of time. So in the end, no one had the time or energy to complete them.
