Everyone has standards, but sometimes you have to be willing to forgo them. If you're in a desperate situation, it's not the time to start making demands, nor is it the time to be difficult. If you're having trouble getting what you need, there is a good chance that the situation boils down to you being the problem (as Taylor Swift would say).
Recently, I found myself needing to travel to another state for a wedding but not being able to afford the astronomical flight prices. I found myself desperate and requested to join a group of friends who were driving to the location. Now, I don't have a car and this one was pretty small for five people who all had suitcases. Before we took off, one person in the group started to complain that it was too small for her. That's when the person who owned the car snapped and told them if it wasn't good enough for them, they could just walk to the wedding. Despite feeling that space was tight, I obviously sided with my friend who organized the whole drive and was gracious enough to offer his car in the first place. The other friend kept her mouth shut for the whole drive.
