Getting written up for a bogus reason in the workplace can be unfair, and being written up for a family emergency that caused you to miss a shift (that wasn't even yours in the first place) really fits the bill. Unfortunately, in most circumstances, you'd probably be stuck in the role for quite some time, especially if your life was already at a precarious point due to the aforementioned emergency. In fact, your power-tripping boss is probably counting on it.

Luckily for this worker, after they were written up by their boss for missing the shift, they were able to hop straight onto a job listing website and come up with a new job before the day was even through. They were starting a new job the following day and were in a position to quit and turn in their things for their old job that afternoon. They shared their experience in a short thread in this popular online community for workplace discussion. See their account of events below, along with a quick selection of reactions.
