Just like anybody who's had to rent, I've had my problems with landlords over the years. I'm no stranger to sending numerous despairing emails because they refuse to do basic maintenance on the apartment that is supposedly their investment.
However, I'm also of the belief that there are some things in a rental property that you just have to sort out yourself. It is not above most of us to read the meter, or unscrew a lightbulb. If some harmless, unsuspecting creature happens to fly into your house, that also seems like a tenant job — unless you're like one wimpy Twitter user who went viral recently.
Sharing a text exchange between himself and his building superintendent, @mattlavietes gave a literal SOS signal to the world because he was told that he would have to deal with a bird in the hallway himself. While the creature was of an undefined species, most people were not impressed at this act of cowardice. So long as you're not recreating this Stath Lets Flats scene, you're good.
