In 2020, a study claimed to show that the world was becoming less colorful. Examining thousands of photos of everyday objects across time, it concluded that a significantly higher proportion of manmade objects are more likely to be in a shade of gray than any other color.
Anecdotally speaking, I feel like I'm living through a time that's less colorful than my youth. Perhaps that's part of the reason that I'm obsessed with memes: I'm a color-seeking person, and they provide plenty of it.
For those of us who drive neutral-toned cars, live in beige homes, and work monochromatic office jobs, they provide a sight for sore eyes. We're all just like big babies being plopped in front of some neuron-developing primary colored toys for the first time. Maybe it's not so great that many of us do this for several hours a day, but we can ignore that part.
