Dating is difficult. There are so many unspoken rules that seemingly bind us, and it can be hard to know whether or not you've crossed a line. What are you supposed to wear? You want to look like you put in effort, but not so much effort that it's embarrassing. What kind of place are you supposed to suggest? Is dinner too formal? Is coffee too casual? You're forced into so many choices, choices that can seem to make or break. After all, in the first few dates, a simple error can be enough to end things.

And then comes the tangled moral quandary of who is going to pony up for the date. The obvious choice is to split it, but even that gets complicated, as evidenced by a recent viral Reddit post.
