I'm someone who won't respond to anything work-related once I've clocked out for the day. However, there are plenty of workers who think that no time of the day is off-limits. I get it if you're working late and want to shoot me a quick message before you forget—that's totally cool. But expecting your colleague to tackle tasks for you immediately, at any time of the day? No one gets paid enough for that. One time my friend's boss called him at 3 a.m. He's in sales. Can you believe that?
Anywayssss, this story takes place back in the early 2000s, so this OP didn't even have a phone at the time. And he didn't plan on getting one either. Why? He's in IT. People always have IT problems, and this OP wasn't about to respond to everyones call at any time of the evening. He would've considered it if his boss paid him to be on call, but the boss wouldn't. So, the OP found an epic loophole that actually got him out of it.
