In this tale of revenge, the Original Poster (OP) recounts their experience of working for an advertising agency for an extremely corrupt manager—you know, the kind of guy who thought that Mad Men, American Psycho, and Wolf of Wallstreet were “How To" guides and not cautionary tales. The OP repeatedly refused their boss's demands that they cheat their clients, maximizing contract payouts for additions that the client had never requested, like a mechanic installing and charging unsuspecting clients for new brake rotors when they originally took their car in for an oil change.
The OP's constant refusal to obey their boss's demands soon painted them the primary target of their boss's wrath, who sought to terminate them from their role. OP had not been totally unprepared and had a trick up their sleeve… Since they lived in a 1-party consent state, they had been secretly recording their boss's unethical and corrupt demands, and by revealing these, they turned the tables, got their boss fired, and took his job.
