It really feels horrible when an employer retaliates for the simple reason that you gave notice. After all, we're taught and given the expectation that if you don't want the bridge, you give notice to your job, even if you know that the conversation is going to be contentious. But the problem is the entire arrangement is built on trust; you're trusting that they'll show you the same respect you gave them in giving notice and not exercise their right to terminate you immediately. The problem is that a lot of people don't operate or do business based on respect, and so many wouldn't hesitate to kick you to the curb if given the chance. The thing is, you probably know in your heart of hearts how your employer is likely to react, but even then, you might be surprised.
This worker found themselves immediately terminated upon giving notice. Luckily for them, they were able to turn the situation in their favor, getting a payout for the remainder of their notice period while starting their new job immediately. Others might not be so fortunate.
