Americans are known for saying things we don't actually mean. I do it all the time. A few lies I often tell… "Sure, I'd love to!" "Yes, I'll absolutely be there." and the ever-classic "No, go ahead and eat that, I wasn't going to." To misquote Joan Didion, "We tell lies in order to live." I also lie to myself often. Like "I'm going to cook tonight." "I'm going to wake up early tomorrow." or "I'll work on the plane." When I say them, part of me knows I'm lying, but it's important to keep up the ruse anyway. We yearn toward new possibilities, plan for greener tomorrows, and imagine utopias. That doesn't mean they'll come to pass, but it's important to dream.
Unlike me, these memes tell it like it is. They will not lie to you, they do not deceive, they only aim to speak the absolute truth.
