Annoying people like to say that if you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life. I take issue with this phrase. Some people dream of being a doctor, for example, and I don't think anyone is going to argue that such a job is a walk in the park just because somebody is passionate. Similarly, those wannabe entrepreneurs who claim to live and breathe the grind never downplay the hours they put in. Quite the opposite, as a large chunk of the podcast industry has proven!
My point is not that everyone is miserable at work — although we know that millions of individuals are. It's that acting as if our labor is all fun and games is a great way of glossing over the bad points, which exist in almost every job there is. At least we have memes to remind us that it's OK to be negative once in a while. We deserve it for dealing with silly office politics.
It still counts.
