I know my parents are grateful I didn't grow up in the era of "Elf On a Shelf." Just based on the amount of memes bemoaning this modern Christmas tradition, it's clear that it's the new scourge of the holiday season. Back in my day, we just glued some popsicle sticks together to make snowflakes, stuck glitter on some pre-made ornaments and that was it for the holiday crafting. There was no sneaking around every night to find new little elf scenarios.
Holiday traditions can be important. It's nice to have some structure to your year, rituals to mark time, and chances to gather to remember the meaningful things in your life. But when they involve a crappy little elf figurine, they might be best left to the sands of time. The parents behind these tweets get it.
