'This lady filmed me': Hotel guest falsely accuses housekeeping of stealing her daughter's things, tries to get front desk agent fired

It takes a special kind of hotel guest to misplace important items and then immediately go on the offensive and accuse housekeeping of theft. Perhaps it's generational, perhaps it's having experience being on the other side of these kinds of accusations, or perhaps it's just being a decent human, but I consider myself to be someone who is far more likely to blame himself for a lost item. Hypothetically speaking, if I were convinced that for once it was not my fault this time, I would at the very least check everywhere carefully and then ask people nicely if they had seen this treasured object. Unfortunately, this Karen was the polar opposite. She was quick to throw accusations and even tried to get the front desk agent fired, and they clearly were not culpable as they had been singlehandedly manning the front desk the whole time. But I guess those are the lengths that Karens will go when you cross them.

    She paused, looked at me and said eh today? Like I am supposed to know that. Anyways, she explained how it looks like etc. with an attitude that even her daughter said to her mom please. She then looked at me and said go look for it now, they took it. I was still smiling at her and said I am sorry I am here by myself but as soon as I have time I will definitely do so.     After 10 min she sends her daughter to tell me that the comforter was in the closet(she was probably embarrassed that she accused Housekeeping of stealing first before checking the room lol). I was like oh that's great but please let her know that she should not make such quick accusations. After 5 min she came back and yelled at me like crazy,

    how dare I tell her daughter that I said she accused HK of stealing the comforter. I said I am sorry but that is exactly what you said. She tried to make me say things to her, offend her whatever. But I didn't give her that. She then continued calling me unprofessional and that I will soon see what I get from being like this. I said have a good night, smiled at her and ended the conversation. So she left.

    I immediately told my manager everything (she is awesome by the way). Next day she told me that this lady filmed me without my knowledge and showed it to management and the housekeepers Imaoo. She tried to make them fire me. She said to them she never said that they stole from her and made me the bad person. Luckily management was on my side and did not give her what she wanted. I start hating people since I work in guest services man !

    ElvyHeartsong 12 hr. ago Those situations are my favorite to point to the camera and say " Ma'am, you're on camera. Everything you said is recorded. You were on camera when accusing HK of theft. You're on camera yelling at me now." and watch as they realize they just double- embarrassed themselves and that any other improper behavior will also be recorded.

    Nippys4 12 hr. ago Our old night manager had this happen to him on shift once, the moment they started filming him he told that because they were yelling at him and filming him he wanted them to leave, then he said if they don't leave they are trespassing and they are now filming evidence of them trespassing. Was a bluff but it worked hha

I would never go to the front desk and accuse anyone of stealing anything especially when I have my still in the room and then calling the front desk unprofessional because I told her to not make quick accusations lool

    Narratron 10 hr. ago EVERY time I am nice to s... My favorite was some high school aged kids who were positive one of our housekeepers had stolen a sweater. Yes, I'm sure one of our staff committed a FIREABLE OFFENSE over a SWEATER. But I dutifully took down the name, room number and description. Guess what, they called back 30-60 minutes later and said they'd found it in a pile of clothes in the closet area. SHOCK.
