I think it should be scientifically proven by now that the closer you get to a major holiday, the more likely it is that you wake up with a strong feeling of apathy about doing anything except goofing off (or maybe a touch of festive baking). The fact that the Christmas holidays are right at the end of the calendar year only makes this worse. We're ready for a break, and we want this 365-day time period to be over.
