'He's below average and didn't deserve it': College Applicant Gets Rejected From Cornell With 4.6 GPA, Sparks Debate About Entitled Students

Every so often, I wish I could go back to being younger. It would be nice to approach certain situations with the value of hindsight. At the same time, one thing I am 1000% good at never, ever experiencing again is the crushing pressure of academia. All those exams and all that cramming just to be left with extreme feelings of inadequacy because you're scared of not hitting a certain score? I'll pass, thanks!

For teens with decent grades and supposedly decent prospects, applying to college can be a real struggle. The most competitive admissions are notoriously brutal, making it even easier for rejection to seem like the end of the world. 

It's no wonder, then, that one hopeful Cornell applicant felt the need to share his disappointment on TikTok when he didn't get into his chosen school. When the video reached Twitter, the reaction was not always as sympathetic as he may have hoped. It's cutthroat out there.

    Heidi N. Moore @moorehn . 5h Listen, not to be harsh on a kid but "played clarinet for 10 years" and "built investment portfolios" along with an extremely mid SAT of 1460 are not sufficient to get into an Ivy -- even Cornell! -- and his college adviser should have told him that.

    Jay @Ua6_Jevon - 19h Replying to @JoshLekach I know a Puerto Rican girl who actually scored better in every single stat listed. 3+ instruments, 3+ sports, multiple full ride scholarships, over 1500 SAT. Still didn't make the cut. It really doesn't work out the way you all think it does lol. More likely a nepo baby.

    chad, american cutie @endofanerajc Follow Replying to @JoshLekach my dad interviews for upenn and there was a kid who had a perfect sat/act score, a perfect gpa, and a letter of recommendation saying he was the brightest person the teacher had ever met but was supremely arrogant. he bombed his interview for being a twat. there's more to it than just scores and gpas.

    Chris Murphy @christress 3h respectfully as a former SAT/ATC and college essay tutor this resume wouldn't get a kid into a competitive state school (UNC, UMich, etc) a decade ago. hope this helps!
