Anyone who has ever had a dog has at least tried to train their doggo. Some dogs can barely manage to sit, while others can run through obstacle courses and do backflips. But sometimes, you wake up one day and find out your cute little pupper has developed an unintentional habit. Perhaps they get excited whenever you put on a particular article of clothing, or start to get excited when a song comes on. We found some wholesome pooch parents who gave us the scoop on how they unintentionally trained something into their dogs. The results are pawsitively howlarious!

From giving high fives at the end of the walk to comforting you when you're sad, these wholesome stories of accidental training are giving us all the feels and making us giggle at the same time.     I accidentally trained my dog that when he's sitting at the top of the stairs and I'm going up, I expect a high five. Also when we are walking if I scuff the ground with my shoes it means we need to stop (this was an accident during loose leash walking training). What have you accidentally trained?

    Of all the things to accidentally train, a high five is a pretty happy accident. That sounds adorable, doesn't it? Every time you come up the stairs you get a high five from the dog - it's like having your own personal cheerleader. All they are missing is a few pom-poms and the whole fantasy is complete.

    gobucks6 3 days ago Somehow in the course of potty training my dog got the idea that she should nibble my ear if she really has to. I think she did it a couple of times when I was asleep on the couch and she was waking me up. Now if she really has to go out fast she will do anything to lick or nibble my ear. She's a weird dog.

    That's a weird thing to train, what if your dog isn't by your ear? Although, it is a very effective way of knowing if they need to go down to the bathroom. We trained ours to ring a bell if she needs to go outside, but sometimes she overuses the bell just because she's bored! Naughty girl, but we love her anyway.

At the park if I called him to catch up to me, if he ran I'd always say "good hustle!" cos he has tiny legs and never runs and it's hilarious to see him chugging. but now if we're at the park and he's taking his sweet time I say "hustle!" and he'll usually(!) start running.

    BnWyW 4 days ago I accidentally trained them that if I'm wearing a hoodie there are treats in the pocket. Years later, past the puppy training stage, my girl will go nuts and randomly start cycling through every command she knows when I walk out with a hoodie on. Doesn't matter that there are rarely treats in there anymore, those first 6ish months of puppy training in cold weather stuck with her forever it seems.

I have emotional issues, and when things get really hard, I'd cry, or (more often) practice grounding by laying on the floor. She knows that if she comes to me while I'm in that condition, she's going to get an abundance of hugs and kisses in between panting/weeping.     Alarming Implement52. 4 days ago My dad has watched my puppy a few times so far and for some reason she thinks she needs to be on the ottoman for him to put a leash on her. He will leash up his dog by the door and mine runs across the room to the ottoman. I think he did that the first time she was there and now she thinks that how it works haha.

It all started when I had to go back to the office after the pandemic. I guess we got into a habit of doing this while the shower warms up and now if I turn on the shower and don't head to the bedroom, she'll come to the bathroom to "escort" me to the bed for her little love love session. I said 'go away' to him one night when he was being really clingy and I just wanted space, and he looked so sad when I said it so I called him back over to me for pets. This is OK most of the time but on those odd days when we can't walk, he is relentless about it. 2. opening the fridge door signals food and results in my dog appearing in the kitchen immediately regardless of where he is or what his doing.

The first time, I was wearing a knee-length rain coat and she looked so miserable trying to pee while getting rained on, so I straddled her. She finished peeing then, but she didn't want to come out from between my legs. We walked all the way back to the house with her walking in step with me. Now, anytime it's raining, she only walks and pees if she is between my legs.

I also taught him "enough" to stop his barking and "all the way" to get him to go through tunnels completely (he sometimes pulls a u-turn if he thinks it's too dark).

    Ok-Cress1284. 3 days ago I trained my dog to smile by giving him a treat whenever he did it, but now he just...does it all the time. Especially if you have food he wants. Somehow he got it in his head that if a smile doesn't work, he should try sticking out his tongue. So if you have food he will stand in front of you, staring, with his tongue out.
