Rare Footage Caught of Loyal Service Dog Putting His Training to Work in Real Life Alert Shows Just How Extremely Important These Animals Are in a Medical Emergency

Unfortunately, life is not easy for service dog handlers. You would think since they are given such an adorable medical device to have for their safety at all times, they would have it better. But not everyone in society really understands the importance of a service dog's duty. You see countless videos of Karens yelling at someone for having a dog inside of a restaurant or store, but without that dog, they could get severely hurt or worse. And then there are the dog owners who purchase the fake “service dog” vest and “credentials” online so they can take their untrained dog anywhere. They don't understand that if your dog snaps at the real service animal and that dog responds, even in self-defense or a natural reflex, they loses their position as a service animal, and the human in need of that medical device has to go through the long process of finding a new one.

A woman named Jamie who has Epilepsy has an adorable service dog named Echo who alerts her of oncoming seizures and cares for her during one. The dog still has all his special quirks and cuteness that have him viral on social media. However, recently he's gone viral for something more than being a sweet boy.

Recently, as Jamie and Echo were having a grand ‘ole time as doggo and hooman, an emergency struck. Echo does this adorable thing where he likes to curl up on top of the refrigerator. It’s quirky and adorable and the internet can't get enough of it, so, of course, Jamie was trying to get a good video of it. However, amid that cuteness, a feeling came over her, a dreadful one she knew all too well.

A seizure was coming and she could tell it was going to be a bad one. But she wasn't the only one who could tell. The second Echo sniffed something off, he jumped off of his perch and went straight to Jamie. He sniffed her and immediately turned around to grab her medicine to bring to her. Unfortunately, it was too late to take the meds, so Echo's training went into overdrive.

Jamie wrote on the video:

"It’s quite embarrassing to post this but I think it’s good advocacy for Epilepsy. During this video, Echo brought preventative medication but it was too late. An ‘aura’ had presented and I was beginning to enter a seizure. Echo barked to alert that a big seizure was happening. He laid on my body to prevent dislocations. During seizures, I have no idea what’s happening. Echo is the reason for my safety and independence when I’m alone or in public. My seizure became a little more aggressive but he stayed regardless and I'm proud of him. I had to cut the video quite a bit because the seizure was longer and the video was over 3 hours."

Echo let his training lead him and he took the next necessary steps during Jamie's seizure. He gently laid on top of her body to prevent injury and he gave the occasional bark to alert anybody nearby that there was an emergency situation occurring. They were home alone at the time, however, so Echo had to stay put and hope for the best.

You can hear Echo's worried whines sporadically throughout the video, but he never leaves his post. One viewer wrote, “As a person with a history of epilepsy, this absolute devotion and service from this beautiful creature made me cry. Service animals are literal life savers.” As another said, “This made me cry. I have epilepsy and am in the process of getting a service dog. I can only pray to have one as amazing as yours. Such a great pup!”

Jamie says she is doing fine now and posted the video to bring awareness to Epilepsy and also the importance of a service animal.
