What is it about perceived petty slights, such as another driver cutting us off in traffic, that drive us into such a rage? Instances that, if we chose instead not to react, would go by completely inconsequentially and unnoticed by us. Usually, the idea of face-to-face confrontation alone will cause those who would otherwise want to take issue with another's behavior to quail. But while seated in a car, that thin layer of anonymity and safety provided to us by our steel box with glass windows emboldens us to obscene behavior.
What we have here is an innocuous occurrence that blossomed into a confrontation (that sounds familiar, doesn't it?) thanks to two inflamed egos and a purportedly impolite request. When this guy pulled over in his car to adjust his stereo, he didn't intend to remain there for long, but it wasn't long at all until another parking enthusiast came along and wanted to park in his spot, too. Even though he hadn't intended to stay, the simple request made him realize that he might wish to stay there after all, creating a petty standoff between two petty parking individuals.
