As a small business, you face unique challenges and have advantages that big chains don't always face. Especially in family-run businesses, the working conditions can be much friendlier to staffers. Corporate chains with hundreds of employees may seem cold in comparison---there's no way they can keep track of all those people. But at a small company, employees can have a little more leeway when it comes to their day-to-day working experience.
One retail worker who goes by u/skullsquarecompasses shared their experience of working at a tiny business. As a young teenager of just 16 years old, they were giving their uncle a hand at their clothing shop. The OP writes that their uncle "let me run the clothes store." While the uncle took care of the business portion, the OP was responsible for keeping the store tidy, assisting customers, and displaying the clothes. That's not all though: the OP occasionally got stuck with some really demanding customers.
