Do you think friends should loan each other money? Not small amounts like buying each other coffee or lunch, but pay-your-friend's-this-month's-rent kind of money.
On the one hand, friends should be there for each other, and feel comfortable enough to ask for help when they need it. On the other hand, big sums of money can cause a lot of tension between two people, no matter how close they are. The thought alone of having to ask a friend for your money back can make anyone feel extremely uncomfortable.
So what would you do if a close friend came up to you and asked you for a big loan? This Reddit story has brought up a very important lesson to be learned on this topic. A couple of friends of the OP and her husband asked for a money load after having a lavish wedding and a month-long honeymoon in the Maldives. Since the OP's husband couldn't really afford to give out a loan, he refused, only to have his friend ask him to sell his own car so that he could afford to give out the loan. Thank goodness OP was there to stop him from making a decision he would have regretted. Unsurprisingly, OP and her husband are no longer friends with those people.
