The walking hypocrisy that is Human Resources is at it again! This time, we have a fully remote HR representative who refused to grant a loyal employee the ability to work remotely one day per week for childcare-related purposes. It doesn't get more heartless and hypocritical than that.
Look, we understand that there is some value in coming into the office: collaboration, productivity, justifying a lease… The truth is, however, that if a company wants to enforce an in-person work policy, it has to apply to everyone (with the exception of folks with valid medical reasons, of course). Now, this Redditor had reason to believe that his request for one work-from-home day per week would be accepted. Plenty of people in the company work from different countries, he had been loyal to the organization for some time now, he had a young child at home, and it seemed like all nepo-babies in the office were shirking their in-person work responsibilities. However, let this post be yet another reminder that HR protects the company's interests and no one else's.
