r/pettyrevenge. Posted by u/bboru2000 5 hours ago Save a penny, lose a couple grand. Our town used to have "Sidewalk Sale" days once a Summer. Every store would put a table out front with great deals on it. EVERYONE would come down and the whole downtown would be hopping. 4

Usually more business than Christmas. I worked at one of these stores for a guy who was the cheapest I around. He would ding your pay for any minor infraction he decided you made.

He was constantly doing this to claw back 15 minutes here, 30 minutes there. He did tons of other shady stuff like counterfeiting merchandise, too. He also bought used vacuum cleaners at yard sales to clean the store with. This is mid-1980's before cell phones, BTW.

So, Friday of the big weekend rolls around and I (17M) worked and closed up. I went to vacuum and the thing shot sparks out, started to smoke, and had a burning rubber smell come out of it. I rushed it out in to the alley behind the store and left him a note as to why the floor hadn't been vacuumed properly, but that I tried to sweep it with the broom as best as I could. The next morning, I opened and found a note from him that the floor wasn't clean so he docked me an hour's pay. He had another

either. I was pretty livid. I was a high school kid opening/closing working solo all day long, no breaks, and in constant fear of getting dinged for minor violations (ex. "I called the store and the phone rang six times before you answered"...docked a half hour).

The vacuum incident was the last straw. I wrote a lengthy note back detailing all the took the phone off the hook, locked the door, and slid the key under it...on the busiest weekend of the year for him...and walked away.

Grouchy-Ad4338. 2 hr. ago Agreed. Served him right. You 'docked him earnings for.a day' from a sale day for not treating people right - gave him his own medicine :)

18k_gold 4 hr. ago You were probably getting paid $5 or $6 an hour? Wow he is so dumb. Lost all his business on a busy sat to save a few bucks. Plus he isn't allowed to dock you pay as you were in the store working. Did he ever end up paying you for the days you worked? I probably would have taken some merch home knowing he won't pay.

bboru2000 OP. 4 hr. ago Since he paid me in cash, I believe I left a very detailed time sheet and took the money I was owed. I was probably making minimum wage, so it was most likely between $3.75 to $4.25 an hour. 79 Reply Share

Boomerw4ang 4 hr. ago Only would have been better if you'd dialed a 900 number before leaving the phone off the hook.

dr_cl_aphra 3 hr. ago Well played. I was thinking he'd ignore your warning about the busted vacuum cleaner and also burn his store down with it.

Justcruisingthrulife - 1 hr. ago I would have first brought the faulty vacuum cleaner back inside, plugged it in. Then locked the doors and left.
