'Jackpot. Say nothing, get a lawyer': Man gets snubbed after multiple interviews when management blatantly admits he doesn't fit their gender requirements

Interviewing is exhausting. You update your resume 14 times, change your cover letters, and rewrite your personal statement more times than you can count before you're even offered an interview. It may be a sweet moment when you score your first call-back, but your job search has only just begun. 

Nowadays, it's not uncommon to have 6+ rounds of interviews before setting foot in HR's onboarding office. With that many hurdles between you and your next paycheck, the job search has never been more challenging and has never required this much endurance. 

In our next story, one man gets tripped up at the finish line of a prized job position, going through multiple rounds of interviews before his prospective employer pulls the rug out from underneath him.     Toasty Bern 2h ago Unless they can establish a bona fide reason for the job to require a female employee (which they likely can't as a woman can do 99% of the jobs men can) this is discrimination. I would report them either way.

    Scoobydewdoo • 1h ago To all the people saying this is illegal, companies are allowed to discriminate based on /gender as long as they have a reason beyond mere preference. If a gym wants to hire a female trainer to lead a female only class it is allowed to only review female candidates, for instance.

Either this person stumbled in off the street and gotten the job or the client themselves just haven't been working long enough to know consequences of their actions.HR will have a field day but if they employ people like this that are unprofessional and sexist so easily, just have to laugh at how much HR really helps its own company.

    NCC1701-Enterprise 48m ago So if the company is less than 15 employees they can legally do this. Also in some situations it is legal to discriminate based on gender. Regardless a report to the DOL isn't going to cost you anything so go for it and if this isn't one of those situations where it is legal they will get a hefty fine.

    You can talk to a lawyer but there isn't likely going to much in the way of damages to make it worthwhile. Even if the law in your state allows for punitive damages it isn't going to add up to much and likely will cost you more in legal fees than you will win, but still worth a free consult.
