The decision this trucking company made really defies all logic. It's almost as if the decision was made by some higher-ups who were trying to save a few pennies. Unfortunately for them, those pennies they saved ultimately cost them plenty of dollars in the long run.
Driving a truck is a career unlike any other. Truckers spend long months on the road, often living out of their truck and working demanding hours. U/Mallory454 shared that during their tenure as a truck driver in the 1990s, they were often driving 500+ miles per day, as well as working long hours to ensure that their cargo made it on time. So much of the cargo truckers are carrying is time-sensitive deliveries. After all, no one is going to want to eat produce that's been sitting in a hot truck for days on end! That's why the stakes were high, but the pay made it all worth it. Well, at least it did until some meddling higher-ups at the company decided to go changing the way the workers were paid. It made things more confusing, and it didn't exactly benefit these hardworking truckers, either.
