The year is 2024, and these days, long term love is the new coquette phase. Being emotionally available, communicative, and open with your partner wasn't the priority for couples back in the day. Marriage was predicated on social and financial pressures. Women had to marry because they weren't allowed to work and had very few rights (literally). Things are different now, and marriage and long term relationships have become a symbol of our personal identity, rather than just a signature and date for society's functioning.
These days, we use phrases such as, 'our other half' and 'soulmate' to describe our partners. It's emblematic of how we view relationships, and how we understand defining them. It used to be that you go to your girlfriends for emotional support, and the guy typically went to no one. These days, there's a mutual trust and vulnerability between couples, where it's common to turn towards each other equally for emotional support through things. This is a special bond, so when you have it it's important not to take advantage of it.
