Scammer steals credit card information to rent car, emails card owner and asks why he canceled the rental: 'Sorry to use the details hee hee'

Back in the day, you had to be genuinely sneaky to be a scammer. There were no websites with people's credit card information available for any old schmuck to purchase. In the 20th century, you had to pick a pocket or snag a fat juicy wallet off the ground and make some magic by purchasing $1000 worth of Domino's gift cards. There's some level of skill that comes with good old-fashioned thievery that the crooks of today don't have. Today, anybody can be a scammer without even having to work for it. 

So many scammers are getting too cocky with their crimes. One dude who bought a stranger's credit card information from a selling page contacted the guy he stole from. He didn't do it to apologize or even to mess with him but to earnestly ask him to reactivate the payment that he canceled. The nerve of some people!

    So I got scammed and went through the fraud team at my bank to cancel / reverse transactions. Police involved. One was for a foreign car company rental who I called and cancelled a booking after explaining. The cheek of sending me an email in broken English and trying to guilt me about their father! The hee hee to say was more than mildly infuriating.

    a14ar. 21h I had a scammer give me back my money after selling me fake tickets because I found his FB profile and messaged all of his friend list telling them what he did. Two weeks later he then begged me to lend him $200 because his brother needed bail or something. These people are wild. Reply 4.3k

    I could have blocked him, but it was really just funny, and a little second-hand embarrassing. I did ask him eventually, "Dude, you first messaged me trying to scam me out of like $300, and now you send me your raps every few days...The is your game?" . . he just laughed and I never heard from him again.     AchtungCloud . 21h One time, someone got into my Domino's pizza account. I think I had used the same password for something else that was leaked at some point. I got a push notification about a pizza carry out, and so I opened the app and saw it was for a location in West Virginia (I'm in Texas). They used my free pizza reward along with my saved card details to order two more pizzas, some wings, and a 2 liter.     My wife decided to call the Domino's in West Virginia. I really don't know why, it's not like they can fix the issue. But the guy who answered was working the register for carry-outs, and in a stroke of luck, the scammer was at the counter to get his order. The scammer must have heard the cashier's side of the conversation, because as my wife was explaining, the cashier was like, "omg he's sprinting out of here" (he apparently hadn't been given the food yet).     SteelMarch 19h ● The car insurance one likely is still fraud. There are places that will give you X amount for doing Y. It's a form of money laundering. These purchases kind of give it away. It could be multiple people but more realistically it looks like the pattern of someone using it for rewards in a quick amount of time before they cash out something like a 100 dollar gift card. 4 79 +

    theedan-clean. 13h Had someone reach out to my company recently asking if we would be kind enough to release a stolen laptop from device management. Unless you've got company issued credentials, even wiping and reinstalling the OS won't make the machine functional. They submitted a contact us form on our website and left voicemail on our support line. Included their name, email, phone number. Responded with the serial number for the stolen machine. People have no shame or no brain. Reply 13
